After some feedback on my forum post about the FTDI-cable Bus Pirate, Ian introduced me to the term “tenting”, which he suggested might help the silkscreen turn out well.  SparkFun’s tutorial about better PCBs in Eagle had instructions on how to set up tenting, which I did (at 30 mil minimum, since some of the larger vias were that size).

The result is BusPirate-v3b-FTDI-0.2:
